there is the DO NOT CALL LIST and it works:

it won't prevent companies such as your utility or phone

services to call-

• it wont prevent some charities from calling

if you provide your phone number to someone JUST TO GET INFORMATION, they have to call you back-if not interested they will understand-you were just checking it out

• they cant pressure you into signing up for anything right then-NO CREDIT CARD # or bank information REQUIRED-THEY WILL SEND A PACKAGE IN THE MAIL then let you decide (whether or not to keep it)

1. be careful with solicitors BUT realize they are trying to sell something-listen, take their name,  tolll-free number and any other information they provide
2. solicitors have to start somewhere and so make mistakes in learning how to sell something
3. even if you're having a BAD DAY, you can still be polite or at least quiet
